助ける・手伝うの微妙な違い

help「助ける」「手伝う」の意味で最も使われる

I can give you some help with your homework if you need it.

必要なら宿題を手伝ってあげるよ。

assist「（仕事などを）補佐する」「（資金などを）援助する」helpよりもフォーマル

Can you asiist me on this project? I don't think I'll make the deadline.

このプロジェクト手伝ってくれる？締め切りに間に合わなそうなんだ。

save「（危険から）助ける」という意味で使われる

The helicopter rescue team saved the man trapped high on the cliff.

ヘリ救助隊は崖の上で動けなくなっている人を助けた。

rescue「（差し迫った）危険から助け出す」という意味。saveは救助後の安全に、rescueは救助行為そのものに重点を置いてある。

The family had to be rescued when their boat ran out of gas far from shore.

沖のほうでボートの燃料がなくなり、その家族は助けが必要になった。

give...a hand相手がモノを運ぶのを手伝うときによく使う表現

Could you give me a hand with this heavy box?

この重い箱を運ぶの手伝ってくれる？

do... a favor「身近な人を手伝ってあげつ」というニュアンス

Could you do me a favor and turn on the TV? I'm too tired to get up.

テレビを付けてもらっていい？疲れて立ち上がれないの。

たくさん聞くこと、読むこと

第二言語習得にインプット仮説というものがあります。
読んだり聞いたりといったインプットが大切ということです。

たくさんインプットがあるとそれを覚えて、あとはそれを自分で真似して
生成するだけです（って言ってもそれが難しいのですが、そこはネイティブとたくさん話して練習）
子供も母語を習得するとき大人や周りから聞こえる言語を模倣して学習しますよね。インプットのあとはインタラクトといって実際にやりとりを通じて学んでいくようです。

自分の興味のあるものの外国の雑誌や音楽から始めれば、楽しいだけでなく、自分のことをもっと知ってもらえたり、そこから話題も広がるのではないでしょうか
